DAVID MENDIZÁBALpronounced da-veed — is a director, designer, producer, and the Associate Artistic Director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

They are one of the Producing Artistic Leaders of the Obie Award winning The Movement Theatre Company in NYC, and a founding collective member and former Associate Artistic Director of the Obie Award winning The Sol Project.

David is a 2021 Princess Grace Award Honoraria Recipient in Theater.

They are committed to a practice rooted in social justice, radical inclusion, and anti-racism. They believe in creating with community and their artistic vision is shaped by core values that celebrate joy, authenticity, and love.

David attended New York University/Tisch School of the Arts at Playwrights Horizon's Theater School and has directed and developed work with Roundabout, Soho Rep, Long Wharf, The Public, Magic Theatre, Arena Stage, People’s Light, INTAR, Playwrights' Center, and Page 73.

Alumnus of Soho Rep Project Number One Residency, Ars Nova Vision Residency, artEquity Facilitator Training, The Drama League Director's Project, LAByrinth Intensive Ensemble, NALAC Leadership Institute, and Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab. From 2017 - 2018, David served as the Artistic Associate for the Atlantic Theater Company.

At The Movement, David served as one of the Producers on the NYTimes Critic’s Pick production of Aleshea Harris’ What To Send Up When It Goes Down, directed by Whitney White, nominated for a 2019 Drama Desk Award.

They designed costumes for Bebe Zahara Benet and was the Assistant Costume Designer for the Tony winning Peter and the Starcatcher and HAIR Broadway Revival.
